Urban Critter Stew
This has been the most anticipated meal of the winter season. My Urban Critter Stew it is a mix of critters that I took hunting last season. My hawk Koto and I killed several squirrels, took a few rabbits and even some quail. I saved all these critters and today I made my stew. Um Um Ummmmm Goodness!!! If you taste this stew I will guarantee you will be heading out the next day to shoot some squirrels, rabbits and quail when hunting season starts.
My Job requires me to live the life of an ultra athlete. If I eat crap I will perform like crap. Not saying that I don't splurge once in awhile, because I do. But if fresh food + healthy habits= Great Performance! Than eating a diet that is not laden down with preservatives and god knows what else has to be stopped at the door.
We have noticed, that when we go out to eat, the food is saturated with salt, as if, what their cooking does not have any taste and they are probably right, because there is a big difference from food grown in your backyard or locally than those that are mass produced; lettuce for example does have flavor. But you will never know unless you tried it fresh from the earth.
We love to eat good food, my wife and I have been to several places around the world and throughout the US and we are always looking forward to our next best meal. If we go to a restaraunt and at the end of the meal we can't say, "WOW!" we won't come back.
Lately, we have come to the realization that we can cook and create meals that have inspired us from around the world right here at the homestead. We say "WOW!" alot when we eat at home, not because we are great cooks, (trust me were not) but rather; because the flavor from freshly grown food is so intense, it's symphonic when it hits your palate. Thats where the "WOW!" comes from.
We encourage everyone to take steps towards living a sustainable life. Show a child what it means to grow fresh food and more importantly how wonderful it tastes. Plant a garden on your plot and make it your own. It doesn't matter if you live in a studio apartment or have 10 acres, Vegetables can be grown anywhere. It's your challenge, we all fail from time to time, but we would not appreciate our success if we have never expereinced our failures.
At our Small Urban Homestead we will continue growing fresh vegetables, fruits, herbs and with eggs from our chickens we will strive to create healthy, delicious meals that can be enjoyed by all. From the Garden to the Kitchen, we welcome all. 召し上がれ！Bon appetit! Enjoy!
