Delicious Greek Apple walnut honey Drizzle
For the past several weeks we have been eating this for breakfast and it never gets old. In fact it just keeps on getting better.
This dish is really easy to make apples, walnuts, Greek yogurt and honey. That's it!! This meal is perfect for the Urban Homestead especially if you are looking for news ways to use your homemade honey, apples from your orchard, walnuts from your trees and possibly Greek style yogurt you made yourself.
Greek Yogurt is an amazing food that provides so many nutrients. 1 cup provides 22 grams of protein, 490mg of Potassium, Calcium, Vitamin B12 and much needed healthy bacteria to aid in digestion. This can be prepared for anytime of the day. And leaves you so full for a really long time. So it's especially good if your watching your weight.
Ingredients: Serving size 1
1 Medium to Large Apple (any Sweet variety Preferably Gala or Fuji)
1/2 half cup of walnuts chunked and crushed
2 Heaping Tablespoons of Greek Yogurt
Your Favorite Honey
Chop and slice the Apple to your liking, place in a serving bowl. Layer three quarters of walnuts over apples, throw on two heaping tablespoons of Greek yogurt, sprinkle remaining crushed walnut over Greek yogurt and drizzle with your best honey.
My Job requires me to live the life of an ultra athlete. If I eat crap I will perform like crap. Not saying that I don't splurge once in awhile, because I do. But if fresh food + healthy habits= Great Performance! Than eating a diet that is not laden down with preservatives and god knows what else has to be stopped at the door.
We have noticed, that when we go out to eat, the food is saturated with salt, as if, what their cooking does not have any taste and they are probably right, because there is a big difference from food grown in your backyard or locally than those that are mass produced; lettuce for example does have flavor. But you will never know unless you tried it fresh from the earth.
We love to eat good food, my wife and I have been to several places around the world and throughout the US and we are always looking forward to our next best meal. If we go to a restaraunt and at the end of the meal we can't say, "WOW!" we won't come back.
Lately, we have come to the realization that we can cook and create meals that have inspired us from around the world right here at the homestead. We say "WOW!" alot when we eat at home, not because we are great cooks, (trust me were not) but rather; because the flavor from freshly grown food is so intense, it's symphonic when it hits your palate. Thats where the "WOW!" comes from.
We encourage everyone to take steps towards living a sustainable life. Show a child what it means to grow fresh food and more importantly how wonderful it tastes. Plant a garden on your plot and make it your own. It doesn't matter if you live in a studio apartment or have 10 acres, Vegetables can be grown anywhere. It's your challenge, we all fail from time to time, but we would not appreciate our success if we have never expereinced our failures.
At our Small Urban Homestead we will continue growing fresh vegetables, fruits, herbs and with eggs from our chickens we will strive to create healthy, delicious meals that can be enjoyed by all. From the Garden to the Kitchen, we welcome all. 召し上がれ！Bon appetit! Enjoy!
